About

Cherophobiac is the alternative-electronic music project of New York-based musician Alexandra Sullivan. Her debut album ‘Surgery’ was released following four singles. Themes of dark self-reflection, detachment, and melancholia are the cornerstone of the album, and are prominent throughout both the lyrical content and musical arrangements of the songs.

After studying music at SUNY Purchase, Sullivan drew on such influences as Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, and Björk while creating the album. Cougar Microbes wrote, "while [the singles] each offer something a little different, it's refreshing to hear an artist with such a clear idea of their aesthetic." The album is comprised of nine songs, detailing a dramatic shift in thought and behavior, and the self-manipulation necessary to force a change in identity.

Cherophobiac has garnered coverage from XLR8R and Cougar Microbes, as well as a handful of independent outlets. The songs have been called, "contemplative," "cathartic," and "dark, yet soothing." Her latest release ‘It’s Okay (A/B)’ came out on January 27, 2023 — comprising a new single as well as a remix by electronic musician and producer Kaiwei.
